Veteran Tips: Dialects and Accents

The cast this year is a mix of newbies and veterans… and in the true spirit of a teaching theatre, the veterans have shared some helpful tips:

First is a YouTube video for speaking in a Cockney accent which originated in the East End of London done by Gareth Jameson (an actor and voice coach).

Second is the Speech Accent Archive created and continually updated by George Mason University.  In their words:

The speech accent archive uniformly presents a large set of speech samples from a variety of language backgrounds. Native and non-native speakers of English read the same paragraph and are carefully transcribed. The archive is used by people who wish to compare and analyze the accents of different English speakers.

Thanks Rob and Doug!
