Parkway Playhouse Family: “The Wahlers”

The 4th in this series features only a part of the talented Wahler family — Dan and Danny.  Yes, they’re playing cards at an early rehearsal waiting for their entrances. (Shhh!)

So, Dan, what made you audition to be in A Christmas Carol?

Actually, my daughter talked me into auditioning for A Few Good Men.  My daughter’s a Theatre Art and English Major at App State.*  She’s the one who got me into it.  Then Danny and I decided to do this one.  It’s another way to be involved with your kids.

You play several different roles in A Christmas Carol… Do you have a favorite?

I think the Business man, because he’s a little more crotchety.

Danny, do you give your dad any acting advice?

I actually gave him some tips on his Toper scene… you’ll see them in rehearsal today!

Do you like being in the cast with your dad?

It’s just really a lot of fun.  We get to joke around and talk about it later.

You may notice a theme emerging through this family series: you can see how much the theatre brings families together (both kids and parents say so).  Being in a cast together gives them something in common to talk about and makes lasting positive memories of being/working together.  Bravo!  (You may also note that attending theatre productions together as a family is yet another way to accomplish the same ends. Tickets here.)

* Courtney Wahlers is the daughter Dan mentions above — who has been in many Parkway Playhouse shows over the years.  You may remember her as the flashlight-wielding female lead in the 2013 world premiere of Spirited Recollections:  A Personal History of Burnsville.
