logo_200x200_000275From January 17-19, twenty-eight students from Parkway Playhouse Junior’s Production of Mulan Jr will be competing at the 2014 Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta Georgia.

We’re excited to announce that six of our students will be highlighted at the festival this year.  At the end of the Sunday Afternoon Awards Ceremony, six students from ten different groups are chosen to perform a number together.  For the 2014 big festival finale, six students from Parkway Playhouse Junior were chosen and will be singing “This Is Our Story” from Shrek Jr.

Those students featured are: Lily Bartleson, Logan Bryant, Kade Hoilman, Taylor Hutchison, Emily Sigmon and Logan Walden.

We are proud to announce that former Parkway Playhouse Junior student, Haven Jenkins, will be traveling to the Junior Theater Festival again, this time as an intern.

Only a select few are chosen from over a hundred college student applicants from across the country, who have previously attended the Junior Theater Festival.

Interns provide general festival assistance throughout the weekend and attend a special master class with members of the Junior Theater Festival staff.

The Junior Theater Festival began this internship in 2013 for former students who have shown maturity, leadership skills, and a desire to learn about all aspects of theater.

Parkway Playhouse, located in the Appalachian town of Burnsville, NC, is a haven of theatre talent. While people come to the mountains to get away, Parkway Playhouse is a natural gathering place to connect. Likewise, we are an extension of traditional mountain talents: singing, dancing, and, foremost, storytelling. By giving rise to energetic new voices and through a wide variety of plays and musicals, we invite our audience into experiences that are thought-provoking, adventurous, and entertaining. Together we reimagine the world in every live performance, creating dynamic conversations that last far beyond the curtain call. This blog is will feature stories, helpful information, insight and features about the performances.
