The King & I Actor Spotlight – Olivia Morgan

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESQ: Why did you audition for The King & I?

OM: I auditioned for The King & I because this play looked really good!  I also wanted to be with all of the people of the Parkway Playhouse again. I really enjoy being with the people who work there. They’re all so nice!

Q: What shows might people have seen you in before (and not just at Parkway)?

OM: I was in Alice In Wonderland and I Never Saw Another Butterfly.

Q: What is a typical day like for you?

OM: This year I will be going to Mountain Heritage as a freshman. Sometimes on Saturdays I volunteer at “Off The Beaten Path” in Burnsville. I also try and hang out with my friends outside of school as much as possible!

Q: Have you met new friends in the cast?

OM: I have met a lot of new people at rehearsals! I usually hang out with Kyler Honeycutt, Jack and Turner Weinmeister, Olivia and Isabelle Hughes, Logan Walden, and Logan Bryant. I have went to the pool with a couple of these people and we’re currently planning on meeting up with a few more soon!

Q: What is your favorite song from the show?

OM: My favorite song is “I Have Dreamed” sung by Tuptim and Lun Tha because it shows how much they love each other and how much they want to be together. I think I love this so much because I always love a good love story!

Q: What has been your favorite moment from rehearsals?

OM: Hanging out with loads of awesome people has definitely been my favorite part about rehearsals! I’m going to be sad when they end.

Q: Are there people in your life who have never seen you on stage?

OM: My Great Aunt’s, Great Uncles, and Great Grandparents on my mom’s side have never seen me on stage. So, what would surprise them? Me wearing pants!

Q: At what age did you first know you wanted to act?

OM: I was 13 when I decided that I wanted to act. Now I know that I want to do it for the rest of my life and go to college for it!

Q: What’s the #1 reason someone should see this show?

OM: It has basically every aspect of a great play. Comedy, drama, love, and some sad stuff too. It’s an all around great production!

Q: If you could appear onstage with any classic actor or actress, who would it be and why?

OM: I would definitely perform with Judy Garland. She was in my favorite movie of all time The Wizard Of Oz. She was such a great actress and a very powerful woman. She was also very beautiful!

Q: What is it like to work on a Rodgers and Hammerstein production?

OM: It is very fun! The play is very well written and fun to perform. It is harder to perform but I like a challenge.

Q: Anything else that you’d like people to know about you?

OM: My dream is to be in at least one Broadway musical or play.
