Surprise Celebration for Andrew: Share Your Story

On Sunday evening, Mary Katherine, Parkway Playhouse staff and board pulled off a surprise tribute to Artistic Director Andrew Gall in celebration of the completion of his 10th year at the theatre. It was a wonderful way to honor Andrew’s leadership in the creative community. We laughed about common Andrew phrases like “it’s feeding time at the monkey house” and choked up with various friends who have been touched by Andrew’s encouragement over the years.

We know many people who wanted to attend and just couldn’t for various reasons, but we’d like to encourage you all, far and near, to share your (family-friendly) stories in the comments.

Again, Thank You, Andrew!

A word from Andrew. (Added on December 18)

Last night I was called back to the Burnsville Town Center to “retrieve a ‘lost’ cell phone”. When I arrived, I found myself surrounded by friends co-workers, collaborators, students, and dear friends who decided to throw a surprise party to celebrate my decade of time with Parkway Playhouse. Earlier in the day, we had wrapped a production of It’s A Wonderful Life- and the connection between the story we shared in the afternoon and the celebration that night was not lost on me. To say that I am deeply touched and overwhelmed is an understatement. Today I am very grateful. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to have shared so much with so many incredible people as well as to have had parents and mentors who pushed me to follow my passions; friends who encouraged and inspired me; collaborators and co-workers who continue to take risks and work with me; and a family that reminds me each day of what it means to be loved unconditionally. I have always believed that theatre is an act of community, and to be able to step back for a moment and look at the community I have been a part of, and have helped shape…. well there are no words. Just a lot of love. Thank you.

Parkway Playhouse, located in the Appalachian town of Burnsville, NC, is a haven of theatre talent. While people come to the mountains to get away, Parkway Playhouse is a natural gathering place to connect. Likewise, we are an extension of traditional mountain talents: singing, dancing, and, foremost, storytelling. By giving rise to energetic new voices and through a wide variety of plays and musicals, we invite our audience into experiences that are thought-provoking, adventurous, and entertaining. Together we reimagine the world in every live performance, creating dynamic conversations that last far beyond the curtain call. This blog is will feature stories, helpful information, insight and features about the performances.
