Actor Spotlight for All Shook Up: Todd Gatts (WARDEN/ENSEMBLE)

Todd Gatts

Q – Why did you decide to audition for All Shook UP?

A – The idea of getting on stage scared me, and I usually try to do things that scare me, so I can get over my fear and move on to the next thing. I mean, the process worked okay with cows. Now I no longer have a fear of milk or ice cream. Why not theatre?

Q – What might people have seen you in before?

A – If people have spent any time in a seedy, hole-in-the-wall comedy club in Carrboro NC called Dirty South Improv, they might have seen me in the student showcases for Improv 101 and 201, Sketch writing 101, or Stand up 101.

Q – What has been your favorite moment from rehearsal so far?

A – I enjoy the scene in the statue garden. It makes me giggle.

Q – How did you prepare for your role?

A – I’m old school. I want to really get inside the mind of my character. In preparation to play the Warden, I’ve stood out in the hot sun and supervised imaginary prisoners. Think of the Warden from “Cool Hand Luke”, but with more dancing.

Q – What makes All Shook Up different than other musicals?

A –  “All Shook Up” makes a much better date night than “Les Miserables”.

Q – If you could spend the day with Elvis, where would you take him and what would you talk about?

A – I would take Elvis to New York, to the offices of the National Enquirer. There must be an excellent commission for a verifiable Elvis sighting.

Q – What is the #1 reason why folks should come see this production?

A – The energy of this show is like sticking your finger in a light socket, but in a good way.

Q – Anything else you want people to know?

A – My kids think I’m smart, and my wife likes me. I’ve pretty much got it made.

Come see Todd and the rest of the cast of All Shook Up July 25th-August 8th!
