The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree was adapted from Gloria Houston’s popular book by the late Virginia C. Satcher, a resident of Charlotte.  The story follows 7-year-old Ruthie Green, who is anticipating the Christmas Holiday with tremendous fervor.  Her father is due to return from fighting World War I and their family has the honor of providing the community Christmas Tree for the intimate Appalachian community they live in.  When her father is delayed, Ruthie’s vision of the perfect Christmas and the Perfect Christmas Tree is threatened.  In a deeply felt and moving conclusion, Ruthie and her family experience a Christmas miracle that will bring the spirit of the season to life for all.

“Gloria Houston’s book has been an immensely popular and meaningful story in our community. It tells the story of an incredible Christmas that is focused on faith, family, and love” commented Parkway Playhouse’s Artistic Director, Andrew Gall.  “The Mountain Heritage High School students have brought an additional level of excitement and energy to telling this story as many of these students grew up with this book in their families.”
