Students in Parkway Playhouse Junior program have been busy preparing to perform at the National Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, GA next weekend. At the Festival, which in 2016 will draw around 5000 students from 28 states, South Korea, and Australia, Parkway Playhouse Junior students will perform a 15-minute segment of their recent production of Seussical Jr. This performance will not only be for their peers from around the world, but also a panel of theatre professionals and artists from Broadway, film, and television that will offer constructive feedback on their work.
There are thirty-one students from the Parkway Playhouse Junior theater program heading to the Festival in Atlanta. These students have been rehearsing Seussical, Jr. since August and had public performances of the show in November. Since then, the cast and the Playhouse’s teaching artists have returned to rehearsal to continue to polish the work that they will be sharing in Atlanta.
“Sending our students to the National Junior Theater Festival gives students the opportunity to not only share their work with a large audience of other kids with the same passion, but also to participate in workshops and meet working professionals, some of whom are quite well-known, who inspire and encourage students in a way that is inclusive and empowering” says Parkway Playhouse Artistic Director Andrew Gall.
This will be Parkway Playhouse Junior’s 5th year attending the Junior Theater Festival. Break-a-leg to all 31 students, teachers, and chaperons!
