The first NC Comedy Arts Festival – created as the Dirty South Improv Festival – invited four improv acts to party, perform and take workshops on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill in March 2001. This small college invitational quickly became one of the most talked about events on the improv festival circuit, one of the largest festivals of its kind in the country, a model for other comedy events, and recognized across the state of North Carolina as a cultural institution.
Get the Hook is directed by Parkway Playhouse’s General Manager, Kristen Livengood, and features Levi Bradford, Aneka Happer, Olivia Hughes, Spencer Moore, Olivia Morgan, Paloma Soto, and Hana Stella, all Parkway Playhouse High School Apprentices and regulars to the Parkway Playhouse Junior and Mainstage. The troupe will be performing in the High School Improv Showcase Saturday February 13th at 6:30pm.

Parkway Playhouse, located in the Appalachian town of Burnsville, NC, is a haven of theatre talent. While people come to the mountains to get away, Parkway Playhouse is a natural gathering place to connect. Likewise, we are an extension of traditional mountain talents: singing, dancing, and, foremost, storytelling. By giving rise to energetic new voices and through a wide variety of plays and musicals, we invite our audience into experiences that are thought-provoking, adventurous, and entertaining. Together we reimagine the world in every live performance, creating dynamic conversations that last far beyond the curtain call. This blog is will feature stories, helpful information, insight and features about the performances.
