What is a Parkway Playhouse College Intern?

Parkway Playhouse is currently taking applications for it’s 2016 College Internship. This year marks 70 years at the theatre, with a very exciting lineup of productions for the Season.

But what is a College Intern at Parkway Playhouse?

“We look for many different characteristics in our applicants during the hiring process,” explains Director of Education Mary Katherine Smith-Gall. “We try to find college students with confidence, maturity, a basic knowledge how a theatre runs, clear goals and ambitions, and, most importantly, creativity and a strong work ethic.”

“Parkway Playhouse has always been a ‘teaching theatre’,” adds Artistic Director, Andrew Gall. “We like to give our college interns a wide variety of experiences while they’re here. They learn skills like how to focus lights, run sound checks, assist with Parkway Playhouse Junior summer camps, build sets, sew costumes, and, when needed, may even appear onstage in a production or two. They stay very busy while they’re here.”

“I love when the interns are here,” continues Mary Katherine. “They are so helpful and seem to bring a real excitement and passion into the theatre that is so contagious! We have had so many wonderful interns in previous years and I have been very grateful that some of the Junior students and High School Apprentices have had the opportunity to learn from their example.”
