Steel Magnolias Actor Spotlight: Reagan James (Shelby)

Reagan James is Shelby

Q – Why did you decide to audition for Steel Magnolias at Parkway Playhouse this season?

A – I have admired all of the work that I have seen at Parkway Playhouse over the past two years and always wanted to work with the talented actors that were in the shows I attended. When I auditioned for the season I had no clue that I would even be considered for Steel Magnolias, but once I was offered the role I was overjoyed to accept it and to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing cast.

Q – What shows might people have seen you in before?

A – This is my first show with Parkway Playhouse, but others may have seen me in shows at East Tennessee State University. Some of those roles include Mother in The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail, Mimi in Rent, and Ado Annie in Oklahoma!

Q – Describe a day in the life of Reagan James?

A – My days are usually fairly busy! This semester I completed 22 hours at ETSU as well as several shows and student projects. I am a Honors in Discipline student at ETSU, and have several honors projects in the works now as well. I also work for Universal Cheerleaders Association in the summer, teaching cheer camps to young girls across the country, when I’m not in rehearsals for shows!

Q – What has been your favorite moment from rehearsals?

A – Every single rehearsal has been such an amazing time. The cast clicked really well from the first rehearsal and our love for one another has only grown from there. Someone is always telling a story and the atmosphere is so wonderful that you can’t help but be excited to be there!

Q – Do you have an interesting experience that happened in a beauty shop in your lifetime?

A – I don’t really have many beauty shop experiences, but I remember asking if we could go just to get my hair washed in that cool sink when I was little! I loved it so much that I convinced my grandmother to let me lay on the kitchen counter and we pretended the kitchen sink was our beauty shop and she washed my hair for me.

Q – What’s the #1 reason someone should see this production?

A – This production is one that will take you through laughter and tears and leave you thinking about how great the people in your life are!

Q – Anything else that you’d like people to know?

A – The women in this show are all such amazing people and are extremely talented. I think I could turn to any of them with any problem and they would help me in a heart beat and not think twice about it. Sometimes you choose to make people your own family and I would choose these ladies every day of the week!

Come see Reagan and the rest of the cast of Steel Magnolias May 7-21 at Parkway Playhouse for the opening of our 70th Anniversary Season!
